Old School Muscle Building Advice

I just read an awesome post by Elliott Hulse over at Old School Muscle Building Advice It talks about judging athletes on their PERFORMANCE and not strictly on their muscle size…there are many High School athletes who are not blessed with large muscles, but can run fast, hit hard, jump high, and push people around on the field or courts or your chosen sport just as good as any of the bigger guys or gals, or as this article Old School Muscle Building Advice calls them “Artificially Swollen Muscles”. They do it by training for the sport, not training for asthetics!!!!!!! You see, many athletes today are doing routines that are not really great at making them better, but will add muscle size…many of these will not do anything to help you … Read entire article »

Commerical Gym Training

Well, my wife has been wanting to join a gym for a while, and normally I train out of my garage gym at Cold Steel Barbell or another private club in the area. She has also sworn up and down she wouldnt train in the dirty dungeon garage with us too..its either too hot or too cold for her, depending on the season haha..Well she has not showed too much interest in really working out in 10 years and lately its been peaking at an all time high…so I relented and decided to go along with her and join the family so the kids have a place to swim and do other stuff when she is there…I am on this family plan as it was cheaper this way than her … Read entire article »

Girl Training at Elite SSP?

Well, today I ventured into the realm of training a girl who was not looking to be a better athlete but rather looking to get in better overall shape and lose bodyfat. I am use to training athletes to be better at their sport, so this was a little different but in a good way. This trainee is actually my 20 year old sister Kim. She is planning a wedding in December so she has the same motivation most females get for those kind of events. Needless to say, I put her through the paces today and we shall see if she sticks with it or not. She definately enjoyed it and said it beat a workout at Golds gym any day of the week. Training with … Read entire article »

Who wants a better deadlift?

Mike and I came across this accidentally but it works like NO OTHER PROGRAM that we have tried.   We initially thought we might actually lose some strength deadlifting twice a month instead of every week.  Now that we have seen the results of this we are sticking with it!! Here’s the basic max effort lower outline: Week one: day one – DE squats day two – ME squats Week two: day one – ME Deadlift day two – DE squats and work up to a heavy triple or single, ~85-90% Doesn’t look complicated, does it?  Well it isn’t supposed to be!  The DE squats with bands will increase your posterior chain strength like crazy while building speed.  Then, on week two, when you go to pull heavy, you do so with reverse bands, against bands, pulling off of … Read entire article »

25lbs lost in 28 days!! (Final results of my diet on Warpspeed Fat Loss)

Well, its been a couple weeks since the diet ended and I would have updated this sooner had I not left for vacation at the end of the diet and then had to get caught up at work last week. But anyway here are the final results. The diet ended on Sunday, July 5, 2009. The final tally: 25lbs in 28 days!!!! I went all the way down to 250lbs! The lowest I have been since around 2002. Its been so long I honestly cant remember being this light. I cannot tell any noticeable muscle loss and the fat loss has been obvious to many based on the comments I have received. The good news is I have not been on the WSFL diet for the last couple weeks, … Read entire article »

My Diet has started..God have mercy on me!

Those that know me, know that I am a competitive powerlifter, and usually compete in the 275lb class.  Well lately I have allowed myself to get out of shape to say the lease in the quest for a bigger total…I have a few minor health issues that weight loss would definitely help, and I also have been motivated by likes of Elliott Hulse, Alwyn Cosgrove, Jason Ferruggia, and Mike Roussell via their own blog posts to lose the fat and get in better shape.  I see this as having many benefits, my priorities for this weight loss are below: 1.) Healthy life 2.) Less fat 3.) Hopefully healthy enough to make sure I stick around long enough to watch my kids grow up and not leave them without a dad because he was … Read entire article »

The secret to accidental fitness

This week I've shared with you two blog posts in which Dr John Berardi talks about losing body weight and body fat. The first one talks about how important incentives are for changing your body. And it goes on to incentivize you with a whopping $10,000. Could The Chance To Win $10,000 Help You Get In Shape? >> The second one shows you how to coerce yourself into sticking to the plan, even when the motivation wanes. Enter "the best kept secret in weight loss." >> Finally, today, I have one last post to share. In this one, Dr Berardi talks about something called "accidental success." For most people fitness is a struggle. Others, however, seem to sail through life; they're lean, fit, and strong, and they seem to … Read entire article »
